Our school successfully held the second Liaoning Province "Belt and Road" Language and Culture Young Scholars Academic Forum

On the afternoon of June 12th, our school successfully held the “Second Liaoning Province “Belt and Road” Academic Forum for Young Scholars of Language and Culture. Affected by the epidemic, this forum was held online. The forum is sponsored by Liaoning Provincial Department of Education, Liaoning Provincial Foreign Language Graduate Innovation and Academic Exchange Center, and undertaken by the Graduate Office of Dalian University of Foreign Languages. Its purpose is to "enlighten wisdom, stimulate interest, and encourage innovation". Professional graduate students build a new platform for exchanging academic ideas, displaying academic achievements, and encouraging innovative thinking.







Professor Chang Junyue, Vice President of Dalian University of Foreign Studies, Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Beijing Normal University, Professor Miao Xingwei, Ph.D. Supervisor of Xiamen University, Professor Wu Guanghui, Deputy Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Xiamen University, and Doctoral Supervisor, Director of Chinese Society of Comparative Literature, Doctorate of Tongji University Supervisor Professor Sun Yixue and Associate Professor Zhang Huiyu, a postgraduate supervisor at the School of Foreign Languages, Cultures and International Exchanges of Zhejiang University, attended the forum. More than 500 teachers and students from 13 universities including Heilongjiang University, Dalian Maritime University, Shandong University of Finance and Economics, Dalian Ocean University, Shenyang University of Chemical Technology, and Shenyang Normal University participated in the live online broadcast.

Vice President Chang Junyue first gave an opening speech on behalf of Dalian University of Foreign Languages. In his speech, he detailed the development process and fruitful results of our graduate education, and emphasized that since the first graduate academic forum was held in 2015, our graduate academic forum has made gratifying progress: not only the "quality" of the participating papers and quantity have been greatly improved, and the forum's influence and participation have gradually been extended to colleges and universities across the country. It is hoped that the forum can provide a broad starting point, wide field, and interdisciplinary academic exchange platform for graduate students. The forum invited a number of well-known experts and scholars from various colleges and universities across the country to participate in the conference, which will definitely broaden the academic horizon of graduate students and inspire innovative thinking of graduate students.

After the opening ceremony, the four-component forum on linguistics, literature, translation studies, regional and country studies started online live broadcasting at the same time. The four off-campus experts made wonderful keynote speeches in the venues of each group.

This academic forum received a total of 203 postgraduate abstract submissions, 56 postgraduate submissions, and 157 finalists. After rigorous academic misconduct testing, expert preliminary review and two rounds of final review discussions, 4 first prizes were selected. 9 second prizes, 13 third prizes and 16 excellent prizes. Since the first postgraduate academic forum was held, the scope of postgraduate participation outside the academic forum for the first time has been extended to universities across the country.

In the future, the school will further strengthen the construction of the postgraduate mentor team, continuously improve the postgraduate training ability, improve the quality of postgraduate training, provide more and better academic exchange platforms for foreign language majors in national universities, and strive to create high-quality academic forums with large foreign brand characteristics .
